Match Report | Saturday saw a terrific performance from Caradon Ladies 2s with a 10-0 victory over Penzance. It was Caradon’s last league game of the season seeing them finish 3rd in their league on 39 points with 74 goals scored. The home team started strongly and within a few minutes had secured a penalty corner. This was coolly converted by pivot, Neve Hunn and the home team were up and running. Shortly after, striker Laura Hill ensured that Caradon were to remain in control of the score sheet with a top drawer strike to make it 2-0. Caradon were keen to up their goal tally for the season and left wing, Lauren Gouge netted Caradon’s third after some fluid passing from the midfield. Penzance were pinned in their own half for much of the first half and a further two goals from Hill and another one from Gouge saw the ladies 6-0 up at half time. The second half started well, with Caradon dominating possession, but Penzance battened down the hatches, with their keeper and defence managing to keep a determined Caradon out of the goal for the first 10 minutes. Defenders Claire Brown, Nicole Harding, Alice May and Rachael Spencer were not afraid to press high and enjoyed some runs up the pitch. They were keen to rally those ahead of them to keep the goals coming. Midfielders Natalie Ridgers, Katie Fear and Kirsty Merrin passed the ball around beautifully and it wasn’t long before Caradon started scoring again with a fourth from Hill. Penzance showed plenty of endeavour, with a shot saved by keeper, Lynn Oxenham, but their hopes were further dashed when Gouge slotted in another for her first hat-trick of the season. The home side always looked in control, and striker Vanessa Scott had plenty of shots, scoring Caradon’s 9th after a deflection from Hill. It was great to have Merrin back on the pitch, after an injury earlier in the season saw her sidelined for a few months. It was a welcome return for skilful midfielder and she sealed off Caradon’s victory with a tenth goal in the dying minutes of the game. Thanks to umpires Julia Walsh and Jan Woodman and to the sideline support and running of subs by injured player Rachel Luiten. Caradon have a break next weekend, but look forward to playing Falmouth 3’s of Trelawney 2 Division in a Cornwall Plate match on April 2nd. |
