Women's 2nd XI Vs Plymouth Uni 2

Caradon 2s got back to winning ways in a wind-battered home game on Saturday. They hosted a full squad of 16 from the University of Plymouth, but were undeterred by the amount of fresh legs the visitors were able to bring on cruising to a 4-1 victory.

Caradon started the dominant side with many chances saved by Uni’s dogged keeper. Strikers Laura Hill and Vanessa Scott were linking up well and by the 10th minute Vanessa had found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The Uni side were spurred on by going 1-0 down and after a period of strong passing from them, they equalised through a penalty corner.

This was just what Caradon needed to push them on and the midfield of Katie Fear, Lauren Gouge, Natalie Ridgers, Carina Hodge and Helen Manley kept battling hard in midfield to feed the strikers and this paid off with Caradon going 2-1 up before half time as Vanessa slotted home a low drive from a tight angle.

The Uni ladies didn’t give up in the second half, but the stalwart defence of Neve Hunn, Nicole Harding, captain Claire Brown, Marcia Burgess and Rachael Spencer ensured that all attacks were thwarted before reaching keeper Lynn Oates. Caradon’s passing improved throughout the game and resulted in two well worked goals from Laura who popped them round the keeper with ease.

Player of the match went to Natalie for her determination in midfield. Thanks to Jules Walsh and Martin Batty for umpiring and the support for their encouragement from the sidelines. Next week, Caradon head to Penryn to play Falmouth 2s in a cup match.
