Match Report

Caradon Ladies 2s made the journey to Pool to face Duchy who were 5 points ahead of them in second place on the table.

With a few injuries it was a slightly changed 2s line up but off the back of a strong win the previous week, the 2s were determined to get something from the game.

This previous fixture ended 0-0 but any chance of another stalemate was ended when Duchy broke early and with two well worked bits of play were 2-0 up halfway through the first half - much to the disappointment of Caradon who had plenty of positive play of their own goalwards.

In true 2s fashion this season, they did not let their heads down and a short corner chance had Vanessa Scott strike a superb shot on goal, despite being saved by the keeper and deemed too high this seemed to spur the team on.

A free hit on the edge of the D was taken the correct distance before hitting in towards the out running Duchy goalkeeper, Bryony Gubbins took a deft touch to dink it through the keeper's legs to make it 2-1 before half time.

The 2s came out keen in the second half knowing they weren't out of this game yet, the midfield line including Carina Hodge and Nicole Harding in a new position worked tirelessly with Neve Hunn in pivot to get positive passes out to the wings and through the middle. It was another quick counter attack with Duchy's fast youngsters on the wing which got them 3-1 up.

Again Caradon continued to push, captain Claire Brown nursing an injury of her own cleared and blocked chances but it was once again Player of the Match Bryony who got the visitors back in the game. Perfectly positioned on the post she deflected in a shot, getting hit herself by a Duchy stick she literally took one for the team and gave them the hope of getting a least a point from this game.

Unfortunately time ran out before Caradon could get what would have been a deserved draw and point against a team pushing for promotion. They can take plenty from this game despite players having to play out of position they coped well with the fast pace and pressure. They face Plymouth University this weekend with a home game and Lux and another 3 points up for grabs.
