Women's 1st XI Vs Okehampton Columbines 1

Caradon entertained second placed Okehampton and stomped home with an emphatic 11-0 win. With severel key players missing from the Caradon squad the home team were focused on playing positive hockey from the first whistle and were soon rewarded when Player of the match, Molly Walsh, burst forward and passed the perfect ball for captain, Clare Poad, to sweep home and open the scoring.

This seemed to settle both teams. Okehampton in defence mode and Caradon in full attack. Walsh was definately on the front foot and scored 2 quick goals before Poad converted a penatly corner. Lauren Gauge, who had stepped up from the second team, scored a slick goal from the very edge of the circle to make the scoreline 5-0 at half time.

Caradon were in no mood to take thier foot off the gas and continued to push forward. Ellen Spencer and fellow winger Emma Gliddon both deservedly got thier name on the goal sheet and Libby Walsh finished a well worked penalty corner routine. The team were playing the ball around with confidence, Beth Harris creating great angles which opened up the now down hearted Okehampton defence.

Molly Walsh continued to score at will, adding another 2 to her tally but it was the link play with Claire Mitchell that really shone. Playing with plenty of pace and vision they combined well to create the easiest of tap in for Poad to complete her hat trick.

A text book performance by this free scoring team sees them needing 4 points from the remaining 5 games to secure promotion. Next week they travel to Bude to take one step closer.
