Match Report

Caradon Ladies 2s faced OPM at Lux Park in what was a tense affair, which saw plenty of grit and determination from the home side who were driven to get the points.

The home side started well, knowing that an early goal would be to their benefit. Learning from their mistakes the week before, they switched on early with some lovely play through the park more like the week before when they took on Marjons away. With a few early chances on the break, Caradon were clearly the more up for it and their efforts were rewarded as Vanessa Scott jumped on a through ball to dink past the keeper.

It wasn’t long before she was once again on the scoresheet, grabbing her second with a goal mouth scramble using the afore mentioned determination to get it over the line. With the opposition getting teasy over umpire decisions, rightly or wrongly, they were getting themselves wound up and soon green cards were being shown for dissent and stick tackles. At one point, OPM had two players in the sin bin.

Caradon were mistaken for letting their lead get to their heads and relaxed a bit near the half time whistle, only to be caught off guard as OPM converted a short corner to bring the score to the 2-1 at the break.

Despite the tiredness at the end of the first half, drinks and tactics were taken on board and a refreshed side started out for the final 35 minutes. Caradon were letting the ball do the work, from defence to attack, it was impressive hockey to watch. It was a quick counter attack however were OPM found themselves in the D, a strike went into the goal high up into the net. After some questions from the home team, between captains and umpires, the goal was disallowed for being dangerously high.

Caradon could breathe a sigh of relief as a draw would not have reflected the hard work they put in. The remaining 20 minutes were feisty and fiery, the 2s did not let their heads or work rate down and kept pushing until after what seemed like an eternity the final whistle blew.

Other results from the weekend put Caradon 2s now in third position in Trelawney Division 1, facing second place Duchy this Saturday away at Poole.
