Match Report

First league game back after the winter break saw Caradon Mens XI host Exeter Uni F. As expected of a university team they came out of the blocks fast, Caradon were dragged along with their pace not playing their usual style of hockey. The Cornish team however were first to score, Harrison Pollard jumping on a loose ball across the face of goal and tapping it in at the back post.

Going a goal down did not seem to deter the Exeter students, still playing a high tempo of hockey, but once again their over eagerness left room for Matt Bell to squeeze a pass through to Evan Spencer who sent the ball whizzing past the keeper from the P spot. Exeter soon struck back, after a bit of a melee in the D the third shot made it’s past Dan.

Exeter thought they were back in the game, but their aggressive play style led to a number of shorts being given away, with some back chat they also found themselves down to 10 men and a player down on the defensive line due to an early break. Caradon did not waste the opportunity, Martin Batty tipping a ball in after injecting a short corner.

With 5 minute left of the half Caradon linked together some silky play which was finished by Luke Jeffery scoring a ‘worldie’ into the top left corner. The half time whistle blew and saw Caradon going into the break 4-1 up.

The second half Exeter Uni didn’t seem as aggressive in their attack and sured up their defensive lines, both teams didn’t create many chances and with neither team scoring. With minutes left on the clock Caradon struck the final blow, Leon Farrow scoring a worked routine from a short corner. The final score 5-1 to Caradon.
