Match Report

Caradon Ladies 2s made the long journey to Penzance on a blustery and freezing Saturday, hoping to make their trip worthwhile with 3 points before the Christmas break.

The game started with the visitors in control, creating chances and winning their first short corner. A rebound was pounced on by Nicole Harding and was heading goalward but seemed to slow down on the line, luckily Natalie Ridgers' quick reaction ensured the ball crossed the line as Caradon took the lead.

Natalie got her second of the day shortly after as Helen Manley ran the wing and slipped the ball into her running path into the D, making it 2-0 with Caradon cruising.

Player of the match Bryony Gubbins ran rings around the Penzance midfield and defence, gaining ground and space to feed in well timed passes to the waiting forwards. It was one such pass which found Charlotte Harrison in the final third. With no one coming to tackle or pressure, she kept running as the defenders seemed to part the way for her. Running freely into the D with the team shouting to shoot, the youngster did, calmly and coolly to take Caradon 3-0 up at half time.

With the hail coming down, the play seemed to slow up at the start of the 2nd half as it was proving difficult to see the ball let alone make passes and play. Both teams battled on with the Caradon defence not being called into play for much of the game feeling the full brunt of the biting wind.

Penzance had few chances to pose any real threat and the goal they did score was unfortunate for Caradon and caught them off guard. Advantage was played as the ball hit a defender's foot and the Penzance striker hit home.

After further chances, Vanessa Scott was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet despite making great runs and shots on goal, the Penzance goalie saved the scoreline being any more than 4 in a busy afternoon between the posts. It was Katie Fear who took the final chance of the game, with the goalie on the floor clearing an initial shot Katie lifted the ball over the keeper finishing it 4-1 to Caradon.

The Ladies 2s can be happy with their results this half of the season, with a few cup games up next they return to their league campaign on 15th January away to Plymouth Marjon 3.
