Match Report

Caradon’s Mens 1st XI played host to East Devon 1s this weekend. East Devon were travelling down off the back of good results and Caradon with a knock back the previous week.

The game started as a feisty affair, with both getting getting a talking a too early. The game continued at a high tempo with neither team able to break the dead lock. Eventually East Devon would strike first, slipping a short corner under the diving Dan Harris.

With a goal on the board both teams made lifted their game. Caradon hit back with Evan Spencer scoring a deflection from the top of the D. With in minutes the Exeter based team we’re back capitalised off a silky bit of pass and move hockey, taking the lead once again.

Always on attacking form Caradon worked hard towards the goal, earning the team a short corner. Having to adjust Chris Fasey moved the ball late onto his reverse and slotted the ball through the misplaced goal keeper, drawing the game level once again. A well form tactical press from Caradon is alway ready to pounce on a mistake from the defence, and a wayward ball from the left back allowed Fasey to advance into the D unopposed and finding the far corner of the goal before the keeper could attempt a save.

With that Caradon defended hard, an inform Dan Harris and defence lead by man of the match Henry Stephens saw off a couple short corner attempts and keeping the Cornish in the lead until the half time whistle.

The new half saw the teams level pegging again, with neither team scoring early in the second half the game was still in the balance, but that balance was tipped Caradon’s way when a cross from Neil Spencer found its way to Matt Bell in the D who didn’t need a second invitation to score.

Caradon were now in the driving seat and controlled the game, as the final whistle drew near Caradon managed to win a short corner moments before it was blown. The piece would be played out before the game ended, Caradon bought up the whole squad to keep the ball ‘in play’ but Fasey managed to slot it through the keepers legs first time of asking securing a 5-2 win against a tough opposition.
