Match Report | Caradon Ladies 2s were keen to get back to winning ways following their first defeat of the season last week and did it in some style against Newquay 2s.
The home side were up for it from the off and found themselves in the Newquay 25 for the majority of the start of the game. Chances came and went but it was Laura Hill who grabbed the first with a low and hard smash to the backboard.
Caradon could have doubled their lead when they were awarded a penalty flick, Ness couldn't quite get enough power on the ball to convert but this just seemed to spur the home team on to grab a goal at the next opportunity and it came from Natalie Ridgers finishing off some lovely play through the park.
Not to be dejected by the penalty, Vanessa Scott got the first of her 4 of the afternoon following a top of the D strike from a short corner.
Caradon were aware of a speedy young player on the Newquay right wing and were caught off guard as she shot past the defensive line following a counter attack to get Newquay on the scoresheet.
But Natalie and Vanessa were evident once again in the build up to goal number 4 with Ridgers running confidently with the ball and slipping to Vanessa who timed her run onto the ball, scoring to make it 4-1 at half time.
Caradon went out second half full of confidence but were more aware of the threatening counter attack which was allowing some Newquay balls through the midfield. Vanessa got her hat trick with a scrappy but determined pounce on a loose ball over the line at close range. With the home side firing on all cylinders the scoreline could have been much more if the Newquay goalie hadn't have made some quick saves.
Vanessa got the scoreline to 6-1 among no mistake with another chance infront of goal. With time ticking away Caradon were still hungry for goals and it was another well played routine from the defence with passes into space that found the ball at the stick of player of the match Kirsty Merrin.
A brilliant solo run into the D saw her dodge her way through 3 Newquay players before slotting home. Final score 7-1. Caradon play their last league game before the Christmas break away to Penzance on Saturday hoping to get to the halfway mark of the season with another 3 points. |
