Match Report

Caradon 2s had an early drive to Penryn on Saturday to face Falmouth 2s, who sat second in the league unbeaten with a game in hand, the visitors knew it was going to be a tough game.

As expected then Falmouth took an early lead, having scored plenty of goals this season they probably thought this was the beginning of a one sided affair but Caradon were quick to reply.

Helen Manley intercepted a pass across the pitch beating the defender to the ball, ran it into the D and struck low and hard to equalise.

This seemed to settle the frantic start for a period, but with their first short corner of the game Falmouth took the lead once more. In a dominant few minutes, Caradon didn't react quick enough to the quick short passes of the home side and they made it 3-1 giving themselves a two goal buffer. This could have been a other one if Amber Jeffery hadn't have stopped a goal on the line with great calmness and confidence. Player of the match Lynn Oxenham in goal was also on top form and stopped any further goals before the break, kicking clear and shot stopping reaching high.

Caradon were down to 10 as Nicole Harding picked up a green card, but half time was welcome so the team could regroup and refuel.

The break did Caradon good and they came out stronger in the second half. Winning a short corner, Lauren Gouge pushed out strong to the top of D, a strike in from Vanessa Scott was saved however Lauren found herself in a goalmouth scramble and battled hard pushing the ball over the line to bring the score to 3-2.

Frustratingly for Caradon who were putting up a good fight, Falmouth got themselves back to their slick and quick counter attacks and scored two quick goals in succession. 5-2.

But Caradons never give up attitude which has been with them from the start of this season showed again and a returning captain Claire Brown sent the ball up the line from the back to be picked up skillfully by Laura Hill. Unchallenged she raced into the circle and powerfully hit home 5-3.

Despite the fight back, Falmouth once again got another goal a few minutes before the final whistle. Caradon can take plenty from this game, particularly being the only team to score more past Falmouth so far this season putting up probably the league high flyers hardest game in the campaign since it started in September. Caradon welcome Newquay 2s to Lux Park on Saturday, aiming to get points back on the board.
