Match Report | Off the back of a good result last week Caradon Mens 1st XI were keen to replicate the result, however this wouldn’t be easy against Truro 2s who were one place ahead of them in the league table. From the push back Truro asserted themselves on the game, pushing deep into the Caradon 25, despite the turn over a well set pressed forced the defensive line to play keep ball, transferring possession around the back.
After a tense start to the game Caradon started to find their form, battling hard in the middle of the pitch and picking up on any of the oppositions mistakes. The dead lock was finally shattered when Caradon capitalised through a break down at a short corner, Matt Bell finding Finn Andrews in space of the left who calmly slotted the ball passed the advancing keeper.
It wasn’t long before Caradon doubled their lead, arriving late over the 25 Henry Stephens picked up the ball, seeing an open channel he threaded it through to the captain Chris Fasey who redirected it past the stranded keeper who could only watch as the ball trickled over the line.
Truro rallied with nothing to lose they started to apply pressure to the Caradon end, despite some great diving saves from Dan Harris, a mistake near the top of the D and a well placed finish gave Truro a foot hold in the game. Tasting blood Truro continued the onslaught, scoring a short corner and levelling the game 2 goals a piece.
With the game in the balance the younger players in the team stepped up, Harrison Pollard attacking down the right, drawing in the defenders before off loading the the ball to a waiting Evan Spencer, who expertly despatched the goal from the back post. Holding onto possession from the restart Caradon saw out the half with a 3-2 lead.
The second half continued like the first, to the frustration of both sides, unfortunately players allowed their emotions bubble over, with several players making trips to the sin bin. With neither team settling properly it was Caradon who had a fortunate break with a short corner. The keeper made the first save but Man of the match Neil Spencer jumped on the rebound slamming it against the back board. Seeing the keeper stepping out during the short Caradon’s captain formed a plan for the next.
With the confidence a two goal lead brings Caradon continued to advance of the opposition goal, despite several good opportunities Caradon fail to find the back of the net, with 5 minutes to go however Caradon won a short corner and it was time for the plan to go into action. Holding the ball longer than usual at the top of the D the runners closed in, the keeper stepped out to cover the flick, Fasey threaded the ball wide to an advancing Evan Spencer, who with one touch steered the ball around the keeper to find the back board. Now with a three goal lead Caradon were content to see out the remainder of the game which finished 5-2. Next week the 1st team travel to top of the league Okehampton. |
