A comfortable 6-2 win was the end result for Caradon on Saturday.
After not playing last week, Caradon 1s were eager to get the game underway against Tiverton White Eagles. With the squad back to full strength, confidence was high but it was Tiverton who opened the scoring after bundling in a rebound after keeper, Helen Dellbridge saved brilliantly after a shot hit the crossbar.
Caradon did not flinch and straight from the restart played some brilliant one touch hockey. Claire Mitchell found Bizzie Dinnis who finished in her reverse.
Goal number 2 quickly followed when roles were reversed and Dinnis combined effortlessly with Mitchell who's powerful shot found the net of the goal.
Caradon continued to eliminate the Tiverton midfield with both Saffie Cripps and Libby Walsh working well to keep the ball moving.
The next goal came when Amy Greenbank expertly intercepted the ball and found Clare Poad in space in the middle of the park. A straight pass to Dinnis was then moved on to Ellen Spencer who coolly slotted past the keeper.
The score was made 4-1 just before half time when Dinnis turned provider again and Emma Gliddon made no mistake after a well timed run from the right.
The second half was a much more scrappy affair with both teams struggling to maintain good phases of play. Player of the match, Julia Eldridge, showed great composure and was the catalyst for the next 2 goals. Feeding the ball from the crowded midfield to the space on the wings. Gliddon unselfishly found Dinnis to tap in from 2 yards out and Mitchell finished the scoring after a text book team move left a simple finish. Caradon were reduced to 10 players numerous times but kept to the game plan and proved difficult to break down.
Tiverton continued to battle and were rewarded with a consolation goal after finishing from a penalty corner.
Caradon look forward to playing a home game this week against undefeated Devonport.
