Match Report

Caradon we're expecting a tough game when they travelled to  Okehampton on Saturday as they were the in form team in the league and had scored 13 goals in their last two games.

With minds focused and returning players welcomed back to the squad, enabling a slight change in formation from previous weeks, Caradon started with a positive attacking style of play straight from the off. Bizzie Dinnis scored her first of 3 within 5 minutes but the scores were soon levelled after a missed foul in the Okehampton circle left the Caradon players flat footed and Okehampton broke quickly, and found the back board with a clinical overload finish.
With a average age of 16 across Caradons midfield, heads could have dropped but the Cornish team continued to play their passing, attacking style and soon regained the lead. Emma Gliddon tapping in at the far post to finish a good move.
Okehampton could have levelled again but stand in keeper, Lynn Oxenham, saved brilliantly from a drag flick at a penalty corner.
This seemed to spur Caradon on and the flood gates began to open. The team had a lovely balance and the trust between the players was evident to see. One touch hockey and clinical finishing saw a healthy lead at half time with a further goal from player of the match Dinnis, 2 from Saffy Cripps and 1 from Clare Poad.
With the half time talk focused on continuing the attacking hockey there was no way  back for the in shock home team.
Claire Mitchell, Ellen Spencer and Libby Walsh were full of creativity, provided lots of chances to increase the score line. Goals were scored at a steady pace. Dinnis rounding over an impressive performance with her third, Spencer and Mitchell both getting a well deserved goal and midfield patroller, Beth Harris converting a penalty corner.
The most impressive performance of the season so far and a good foundation for the rest of the season when it restarts after a one week break for half term.
