Match Report

Caradon 2s started the new league season with a 4-1 win over a young Marjons side.

With new additions to the 2s line up, there was plenty of youth and experience to face this up and coming Marjons group.

The home side started strong and before long found themselves lined up to take a penalty corner. Lauren Gouge injected a strong ball to the top of the D where Helen Manley collected and slipped to Vanessa Scott who struck the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The attacks came thick and fast with some lovely forward flowing hockey and 1-2 passing up the field, you could be mistaken for thinking this team hadn't been playing together for much longer. When Marjons did make a quick counter attack, their efforts were thworted by Rach Spencer, Claire Brown and Amber Jeffery, quickly collecting the ball and pushing it back up to the opposing D.

It was Gouge with the next goal, an expertly placed shot hit the backboard and Caradon were in their groove.

The middle line rotated throughout the match proving to be helpful in the humidity, player of the match Neve Hunn worked hard in the centre making excellent passes to push forward Katie Fear, Charlotte Harrison, Natalie Rodgers and Kirsty Merrin whose impressive determination maintained alot of possession.

A free for all in the D couldn't be cleared by Marjons and Manley found the ball infront of her to push across the line to make it 3.

The second half speed of the game certainly slowed, as much of the play seemed to stay in the middle of the park with less chances. One breakaway opportunity ended with a scramble in the Caradon area and with the ball accidently stopped on the line, a penalty was awarded and scored by the visitors.

However the home side continued to push and increased the goal difference when Vanessa jumped onto a loose rebound to finish it 4-1.

Caradon can be pleased with this start and optimistic of the team play. They face Caradons third team in next week's game at Lux Park
