Match Report

Caradon made an excellent start to their league campaign with a 6-1 win over Plym Valley.

With the new look team team unsure on how they would fare they did not have the most promising  of starts, conceding an early break away goal which left keeper, Helen Delbridge, with no chance. Caradon did not panic and started to find more space around the back of valleys defence which led to the start of numerous penalty corners being awarded.
Libby Walsh, making her league debut for the 1st team, levelled the scores when reacting quickest to a rebounded shot from one of these penalty corners and it wasn't long before Amy Batty did the same from the opposite post minutes later.

Caradon looked a lot more together as they went into the half time break and with the emphasis on stretching the play in the second half it was Clare Poad who's cross in the circle was deflected intI the goal by a defender that increased the visitors lead.
Clare Mitchell was hugely influential in the middle of the park and as well as creating good attacking phases managed to get on the goal sheet herself for the 4th goal for Caradon.

Plym Valley continued to play their hard hitting, long ball game and were awarded a penalty flick after a foul but Delbridge saved brilliantly to keep Caradon comfortably ahead. As valleys heads dropped, Caradon were awarded a barrage of penalty corners and plenty of new routines were tried out, but it was the classic stop and strike from Poad that found the backboard for the next goal.
Player of the match, returning player Lucie Kay, continued to start attacks down the right. Emma Gliddon continued to be a permanent threat on the right wing before suffering a nasty injury to the hand.

With minutes to play Ellen Spencer marked her league debut with a confidant finish on the left and Caradon took not just the 3 points but lots of positives to take to the next game where they welcome Tavistock to Lux Park for a 1.15 start.
