Match Report |
Caradon entertained an unbeaten Falmouth 2s team in the quarter final of the county cup on Saturday and ran out 6-3 winners.
With both teams winning their respective leagues with unbeaten records, this game was always going to mean goals as both teams were high in confidence.
It was Falmouth who struck first, scoring a break away goal with their first attempt but Caradon replied quickly when a good team press resulted in Bizzie Dinnis scoring her first of the day. Caradon were struggling to find their normal flow but still managed to create numerous chances on goal. Dinnis scored her second after good build up play from the midfielders but then uncharacteristically missed a penalty flick. This was soon amended when, on the last play of the half, she bravely stepped up to take another penalty flick and this time made sure the ball found the backboard.
Falmouth continued to be a nuisance to the normally unflustered caradon defence and scored a well worked goal to make it 3-2. The next goal was going to be important and it was Caradons' winger Ellen Spencer who scored it.
Player of the match Daisy Hunn was having an outstanding game in defence, stepping in front of her player and pushing forward at every opportunity. Dinnis was proving to be just too good and scored her fourth before Clare Mitchell made it 6 after following up a well played advantage by the umpires.
Falmouth did score another, late in the game, but Caradons game management saw the result was never in doubt.
Caradon will need to be at their best next week when they take in on Newquay in the semi final. Previous games between these two clubs have never been dull and this fixture is sure to be another great game.
