Match Report | Caradon 1s hosted PGSOBs 2s in what would be the last game before Christmas. After a strong start Caradon looked to be in the ascendancy, but despite the pressure in the oppositions 25 they were unable to capitalise. The best chance came from a clean Leon Farrow strike which was later ruled to have be hit from outside of the D by the finest margins.
With the pressure of not scoring weighing down on Caradon small cracks in the team started to appear as they continued to push forward, they Plymouth team we’re finding pockets to play in and progressing up the field. However it was Caradon who scored first, a ball fired across the D was deftly dispatched by Harrison Pollard at the back post. The advantage didn’t last long, PGs striking back within minutes.
With the game slightly more open Caradon continued to find space to attack the away side’a D. A deflection off a defender sent the ball into the path of a waiting Leon, who took no time in slamming the ball into the bottom corner. With the goal lead the game calmed a bit, weathering a couple short corners Caradon saw out the half with a slim 2-1 lead.
The second half continued like the first Caradon having the lion share of possession but being unable to score when the time came, the longer this went in the sloppier the hockey got, sacrificing building an attack for a more direct method. Eventually this did work, Luke Jeffery attacking down the right base line off loading the ball to Chris Fasey to bludgeoned the ball through the advancing keepers legs.
The travelling team were not finished though, creating space and finding a man at the back post they were back in the game with 10 to go. That’s when a bit of luck came in, a pass from Harrison ricocheted off multiple sticks in the D with the lady touch being claimed by Finn Andrews to bagged Caradon’s 4th.
Now to see out the game, Caradon sacrificed a forward position and filled the midfield, if PGSOB wanted to score they would have to do it the hard way, keeping possession of the ball and some tidy time management saw the way to the final whistle of a messy game. Caradon came away 4-2 winners and are currently joint 2nd (4th on goal difference) in the table for the winter break. |
