Match Report |
Caradon 4s played the first of the County cup matches down in deepest darkest Penzance on Saturday 23rd October. The 1030am pushback meant a very early start for everyone. The 4s play in Trelawney 2 league and Penzance play in the league above, so they were expecting a very hard match, especially as Penzance had substitutes and Caradon had none. Penzance took a very early lead, but the 4s were not put off and at 10 minutes, Jo Maudsley found the back of the goal, with a pass from daughter Lily. Penzance took the lead again but the 4s persevered and on 34 minutes Lynsey White, tapped in a ball from a Jo Maudsley shot. The 4s were awarded a penalty flick close to half time, which Bryony Gubbins kindly "volunteered" to take. Unfortunately the Penzance keeper stopped the shot and the score was level at 2-2, when half time struck. The second half began and the 4s had the majority of play and were in the Penzance D a lot, with shot after shot, but none would go over the back line! Penzance scored a 3rd goal and the 4s were jubilant when Bryony Gubbins scored a cracking goal to level the score. However this goal was disallowed, by one of the umpires. The match ended 3-2 to Penzance, which was really disappointing for the 4s, as they were definitely the better team out there that day. Player of the match went to Lily Maudsley.
