Match Report | Caradon entertained Falmouth in the semi final of the covid cup organised by the county. With Falmouth playing in two leagues higher, it was always going to be a tough ask for Caradon team. Falmouth were confidant on the ball from the first whistle and Caradon were unusually on the back foot. With pressure mounting Falmouth took the lead with a well converted penalty corner, the ball being deflected into the roof of the net to give the defendrrs no chance. Caradon struggled to play their normal passing hockey and had to work really hard to get any real phases of play. Claire Mitchell seemed to find the small areas of space available and cause some threat towards the Falmouth goal, but penalty corners could not be converted and it was soon Falmouth who increased thier lead before the half time break. Caradon uppped thier game in the second half and were definately more competative. Amy Batty made some crucail tackles and Player of the Match, Helen Dellbridge, made some cracking saves in goal. Falmouth continued to have the majority of possesion and Caradon had to settle for penalty corners as the main chance to score. Falmouth defended solidly and effectively ended the game when they scored thier third from a well worked counter attack. Despite the defeat Caradon were greatfull for the chance to play a few games in this competition and now look to regroup and refresh the squad ready for the new season that is due to start in September. Thanks to Cornwall Hockey Association who have given clubs the chance to play hockey after such along time off due to covid. |
