Match Report

Caradon travelled to Penzance to play the team that pipped them to last years league title in a pre season friendly.

The game started with both teams starting were they left off last season. This was sure to be a battle between these 2 teams who were both keen to express themselves. Caradon created the better chances in the first 20 minutes and should have been on the score sheet twice before penzance even had a shot on goal. Bizzie Dinnis created numerous chances and penalty corners but none could be converted, either by last ditch clearences off the line or missed deflections.

As the game settled it was very even but just before the half time break, Penzance scored a soft goal when a miss hitt from the top of the circle found the bottom corner. To add to the conceeded goal, Caradons' winger Sadie Mullis recieved a ball to the face, forcing her to leave the pitch with a bloodied broken nose.

As the second half started Caradon looked unsettled and Penzance began to take a firm grip on the game. Midfielders were being dragged out of position and struggled to find any fluidity to thier game. As the pressure mounted Penznce scored 2 quick goals and Caradon were rocking. Penzance were asking questions of Caradons defence who stood firm and battled thier way to full time. Beth Harris was awarded Player of the Match for her strong performance and grit and determination.

Caradon will need to take thier chances this week when they face Falmouth in the final of the county cup, a team that play 2 leagues above. Being underdogs will hopefully allow the team to play pressure free hockey and maybe spring a surprise result, if they put away thier chances.
