Match Report | Caradon Men’s 1st XI hosted Truro 1s in the semi final of the Cornish Cup this weekend. With Truro being the odd on favourite to win the tie Caradon went out trying to cause an upset.
The first half Caradon were stoic in their defence, thwarting the Truro attack. After 30 minutes of Caradon failing to create an clear opportunities for themselves and despite Dan Harris’ many saves Truro finally found the back board giving them a slim lead.
With the game opening up Chris Fasey capitalised on a ball in from a free hit reversing the ball back across the face of the goal and into the side netting. The level playing field did not last long as Truro once again retook the lead from a short corner in the dying minute of the first half.
The second half was a lot more free playing than the first, Truro taking an early goal going 3-1 up. Not a team to sit back and take a beating Caradon continued to press forward, after some scrappy play in the D Chris found space to slot a second reverse past the keeper. With the game back with in touching distance the more experience Truro team started to show their form, scoring from two penalty flicks and a short corner.
Last blood did fall to Caradon, a worked short corner saw David find the gap between the keeper’s legs. The cup tie finished 6-3 in favour of Truro, with their focus on the league Caradon were happy with the way the game played out and are looking forward to getting started. |
