Women's 2nd XI Vs Duchy

After a 4 week break due to Lockdown, Caradon 2nd Team made the long journey down to Pool Academy to face Duchy in what they knew would be a tough match. 

Despite the freezing rain, Caradon’s spirits were not dampened and they started brightly, putting pressure on the Duchy defence and testing the keeper with a couple of early shots from forwards Vanessa Scott and Ellen Spencer.

It took Duchy until mid way through the first half to even test the Caradon defence, but it was from a lucky short corner that Duchy took the lead when a looping shot landed unseen at the feet of a defender and the ball was bundled over the line.

Caradon regrouped quickly and managed to equalise after player of the match Clare Mitchell slipped the ball neatly back to defender Claire Brown, who sent it up the line to Sadie Mullis, whose deft touch took it past the Duchy player and into the path of Ellen Spencer. Spencer shrugged off her defender and squared the ball to Helen Manley, who made no mistake in front of goal, bringing the score line back on an even keel.

Duchy scored again just before half time, so Caradon’s team talk focused on positivity and passing for the second half. It seemed to work and they had a spell of good pressure, with Saffy Barriball-Cripps and Rach Luiten winning short corners, but they just couldn't get it past the Duchy goalkeeper.

Duchy scored their third goal as the hail came down and the game looked beyond Caradon, but a renewed burst of activity saw Laura Hill blast the ball into the back of the net in the last few minutes, with the game ending 3-2 to Duchy.

With the league Christmas break now due just as the games have been allowed to be restarted, Caradon plan to play Bodmin tomorrow in a friendly.
