Match Report

Caradons mens 3rds travelled up to Play Okehampton on Sunday morning. Spirits were high and the visitors started well defending well, as a team keeping Okehampton out of their circle. A few mad scrambles from the Caradon defence were all that kept the home side from taking an early lead. After a couple of close calls Caradon settled into a back and forth battle, for control of the ball with neither team able to gain the upper hand. Caradons defence were on form and matched every attack perfectly, unfortunately the Caradon forwards weren't able to find their way through to the home teams circle. Okehampton broke this dead lock with a goal seemingly out of nowhere, shocking the visitors but they didn't quite have the time to capitalise on this and extend their lead before the half time whistle blew.

Okehampton came out really strong after the restart, as they looked for another goal, seemingly throwing everything they had at the visitors, who soaked up all this pressure and threw it straight back at them. The home team couldn't keep this level of pressure up for too long and soon Caradon were forging into the opposition circle their eyes firmly on the goal. Matt James found the goal, smashing the ball into the corner past a lost Okehampton defence. Caradon were firmly in the game now, which must have riled the home team as they restarted the game at a furious pace. Frustratingly for Okehampton Caradon cut their attack short before it could gain to much momentum and went in search of the goal again but Caradon inexperience in front of goal showed as they failed to convert their chances. Okehampton changed tack now and seemed to stretch the play isolating the Caradon defence cutting them off from the midfield, effectively stopping any outlet for the backs. Despite the sterling work of Joel Tamblyn in defence Okehampton found the goal twice more before the full time whistle blew. Though the result was a little disappointing the game itself was very good and shows just how well the team is progressing.
