Match Report | Top of the league Clash. Top of the league Plym Uni 2 travelled to Lux Park to play Caradon 3’s (second in Trelawney Div.2 league) in this pivotal league game. Caradon trail Plym Uni by 3 points, a win will see Caradon go top of the league on goal difference. Plym Uni won the toss and chose first push back, from the outset both teams dug deep fighting to keep possession. However, Caradon then dominated play and pressed forwards using the right wing to make plays looking for winger Jayne Longrigg. Longrigg and Emma Gliddon instrumental in quick pass plays swiftly moving balls around uni players, before Uni’s defence cleared any risk of penetration. Caradon’s 50/50 passes were quickly intercepted by the fit uni side, uni set plays down the middle with long balls looking for the edge of the ‘D’ were quickly defended by mother and daughter team Sharon and Amber Jeffrey (she got it from her mama). Shelley Locket for Caradon assisted Jeffrey’s with clearances of threatening balls to the safety of Caradon’s wing. Shortly before half time, the young plum uni side took the lead 1-0, with a base line run later chipped passed keeper Emily Joyce. Determined Caradon didn’t take long in turning the score around with a short corner injected by a Libby Walsh perfectly placed ball received to Kirsty Merrin before slipping to Neve Hunn who left no doubt she would find the back board. Caradon players returned spirited after half time talks and score back levelled at 1-1, Caradon poised ready as defeat was no option. Plym uni were in hungry for a win, and continues to threaten Caradon’s defence. All opportunities for uni goals were denied by nimble keeper Joyce, stopping shots in all angles. It wasn’t long before Caradon retained shape and model play from Katie Fear fed the ball swiftly across the pitch looking for Abi Larigo, who took the play around uni’s solid halves and pushed wide to Libby Walsh. Walsh glided down the wing, beating numerous Uni players before crossing the ball to the penalty spot to a perfectly time run by Hunn, to strike the ball pass Uni’s keeper smashing to win the game for Caradon 2-1. Caradon’s coach Clare Poad substitutions and restructuring was instrumental in Caradon’s win over top of the table Plym Uni2. Caradon lead Plym uni in goal difference, 50 to 33. Next weekend Caradon entertain Truro 2’s at 10.30 in the Plate Quarter Finals. |
