Match Report

Caradon III 5 – 0 St Austell

With last week’s first defeat etched in the minds, Caradon 3’s meant business for this home fixture against, second in the league ‘The Saints’.

The Saints used first push back to their advantage driving the pitch, and dominating from the middle. A resilient Caradon defence prevented any direct shots at Goal Keeper Emily Joyce. It wasn’t long before Caradon retaliated, with textbook passes from Emma Gliddon and team mates Natalie Ridgers and Neve Hunn, feeding play through the field. Ultimately creating opportunity and space for Caradon defender, Sharron Jeffrey, to slip a tight angled ball swiftly past the keeper after a slight deflection from St Austell’s defender putting Caradon 1-0 ahead.

St Austell responded with strength to try and even the score sheet, however denied by Caradon Captain Nicola Batten holding strong against St Austell’s influential up front player, cutting play short to feed Caradon down the wing.

Caradon’s model play continued up field, an instrumental pass from Katie Fear assisted Lauren Gerry on to the score sheet. Quickly followed up before half time by a strike from Vanessa Scott putting Caradon 3-0 ahead.

St Austell were not keen to accept the score line and continued to threaten Caradon’s defence with bullish tactics and intimidating play. Caradon kept their heads and let skill prevail, with Leah Strevens striking the backboard, putting Caradon 4 ahead in this testing match. With all their might St Austell’s battle to convert was in vain, with Vanessa Scott netting her second finishing the game on a 5-0 win. Caradon’s teamwork, finesse and comradery triumphed in this testing battle. Deservingly putting Caradon second in Trelawney division 2 on 9 points, following Plym Uni 2 in 1st place on 12 points.

Caradon are travelling to Penryn in the first round of the County Cup group stages, this weekend to face Falmouth 2’s.
