Match Report | Caradon 2s entertained Falmouth at Lux Park last Saturday, hoping to capitalise on the previous week’s goal scoring form. The first ten minutes was scrappy at best, with the Falmouth defence intercepting all of Caradon’s attempts at settling into their passing game. The first goal came from a quick break from the Falmouth midfield - Goalkeeper Zoe Harris made a strong initial save, but Falmouth were first to the rebound to put the ball in the back of the net. This was the wake up call Caradon needed and they came back with an excellent example of determination. They dominated possession across the midfield, with winger Bryony Gubbins twisting and turning the Falmouth players in circles, but despite several attempts Caradon just couldn’t put it past the Falmouth keeper. A rousing half time team talk from on pitch captain Marcia Burgess saw Caradon start the second half with new found confidence, switching the ball across the defensive line and building play with accurate passing across the pitch. A quick free hit from Claire Brown to find Burgess just inside the 23, saw her drive toward goal, spin her defender and slot it straight in the bottom corner, levelling the score 1-1. Caradon kept up the tempo and piled attack upon attack on the Falmouth defence. Any sniff of a break away from Falmouth was dealt with swiftly by Rachael Spencer, who cooly distributed the ball for Caradon to go again. With ten minutes remaining, midfielder Natalie Ridgers made a defence splitting run, slipping the ball left to Saffy Cripps who finished on her reverse to seal the win 2-1. With three games left, this secures at the very least 4th place in the League, the highest ever position for Caradon 2’s, who travel to Newquay on Saturday. |
