Match Report

Caradon 2s faced a tough test away against a strong OPM team who demolished Caradon 5-0 at the beginning of the season. This 2s team have come a long way since then and showed this really gut from the whistle! Caradon were unlucky not to be ahead within the first few minutes, but OPM withstood the mounting pressure only to go up the other end and score from a neat flick. This didn’t deter Caradons attack and it wasn’t long before Caradon were level through Ellen Spencer after a beautiful ball from Vanessa Scott. The attack of Spencer, Scott and Saffy Cripps was proving far too much for OPM to handle and it wasn’t long before Caradon took the lead from a short corner that was converted by Rach Luiten from a slip pass. Two more goals followed from Spencer and Cripps scoring one a piece after great team play from midfielders Erryn Lockett, Natalie Ridgers, Nic Dymond and Marcia Burgess. Spencer’s second goal was a superb reverse stick, which summed up the 2s performance. Caradon 2s went in 4-1 up at half time, but the second half proved to be a more tight affair. OPM started to play more direct balls down to their forwards who converted twice to make it 4-3 and set up a nervy last 10 minutes! The defence of Leah Jones, Rach Spencer and Claire Brown stood firm and kept out several short corners before getting the ball up to the forwards, where Spencer tapped in for her hatrick.

This was quite possibly the best display of hockey played by the 2s, certainly this season and with a final score of 5-3, this certainly made up for the result at the start of the season!
‘Star of the Match’ was won jointly by Natalie Ridgers and Rach Luiten. Next up is Plym Valley 2s at home. This will be their first meeting this season as the away fixture has been postponed twice due to bad weather.
