Match Report | Caradon ladies 2’s faced 4th in the league Bodmin 1s; Bodmin were only 2 points ahead in the league and Caradon were keen to give them a tough game. Caradon won the toss and Vanessa Scott pushed straight from the start supported by central mid players Nic Dymond and Natalie Ridgers ‘NicNat’ - Caradon looked strong from the off and used both wide options to create chances through Saffron Cripps and Erryn Lockett. Bodmin defence however stood strong and blocked every chance thrown at them. Unfortunately it was Bodmin who got lucky in the first half and managed to score a goal after a defensive clearance went straight to a Bodmin forward to slip to a player on the post. Caradon didn’t let this effect their game and kept up the battle; third team player Abi Larigo played a cracking game again standing in at midfield for the 2s along with Rachel Luiten who was solid in the pivot position breaking down the play from Bodmins strong forward player Vicky with Leah Jones also making her well timed tackles. Caradon came off at half time still 0-1 down but after a positive team talk came back on the pitch with new vigour. Caradon pushed hard for a equaliser and created numerous chances but the Bodmins defence and keeper stood strong again. Eventually the goal came when Marcia Burgess bounced on a loose ball to blast home. Bodmin were niggled by the goal and pushed hard in the last quarter for another goal; Caradons Claire Brown playing centre back stayed calm and poised breaking down play in the Caradon D along with stand in Shelley Lockett on the right sweeping up behind to stop these attacks. Captain Zoe Harris stood firm in goal and kept the defence focused with her great vocal encouragement. The last 5 minutes were tense but Caradon kept their heads and team shape to come away with a well deserved point. Player of the match was jointly won by Shelley Lockett and Nic Dymond. |
