Match Report | After a strong performance last week, Caradon 2s were looking to make one of their best starts to the season by taking all three points at home against a Penzance team who started the day on the same points. From the minute the whistle blew, Caradon looked dangerous. With the absence of Charlotte Reed and Marcia Burgess, this created an opportunity for Natalie Ridgers and Vanessa Scott to make their first start for the 2s. Caradon were relentless in the first half and credit must go to the Penzance keeper for withstanding the pressure and pulling off some remarkable saves. Shortly before the break, Caradon were rewarded with a goal from a well worked short corner which was started and finished by Bryony Gubbins. Gubbins pushed out to Ellen Spencer at the top of the D, who slipped the ball to Erryn Lockett, who then passed to Ridgers on the penalty spot, who then played the ball to Gubbins on the back post to slot home to make it 1-0 at the break. The defence of Leah Jones, Rach Spencer and Claire Brown were rarely troubled during the game with keeper Zoe Harris only having to kick the ball away once in the entire match! Caradon kept up the intensity in the second half with the midfield of Gubbins, Ridgers, Lockett, Rach Luiten, Saffron Cripps, Kerryn Walsh and Nic Dymond terrorising Penzance, and it wasn't long before Caradon capitalised. Scott made a good run and got her shot off well, only to find the post, but Spencer was on hand to slot it home for Caradons second. Caradon were on fire with their intricate passes and it wasn't long before the score was 3-0. The goal started with great build up play from the back, with a great pass to Ridgers who passed the ball out to Cripps on the wing. Cripps drove to the basline pulling the keeper to the right, allowing a slipped pass to Scott to score from the penalty spot. Finally a strong shot from Spencer that was well saved by the keeper, came out to Cripps who made no mistake in scoring Caradons fourth goal to cap an outstanding team performance, moving the 2s to fourth in the table. Player of the match was a difficult decision with so many players having an outstanding game, but the acolade went to Ridgers for her fine performance in midfield. Next week the 2s are back on their travels to struggling Falmouth 2s hoping to capitilize on their position in the table. |
