Match Report

The Ladies 2s first away fixture was a local derby against Bodmin. Caradon started brightly with Erryn Lockett filling in on the left, combining well with the midfield of Kerryn Walsh, Rach Luiten and Saffy Cripps. Caradon were rewarded for their early pressure, when Charlotte Reed played a perfect pass from the middle out to Cripps on the right, who drove down the wing and fired a lovely cross into the box. Ellen Spencer was straight on it and the Bodmin keeper made a good save, only for Luiten to fire in a beautiful shot for her first goal of the season.

Bodmin started to find their rhythm and applied more pressure through the later stages of the first half. The defence of Leah Jones, Rach Spencer, Claire Brown and Nic Dymond stood firm until the last minute of the half, when Bodmin had yet another short corner, which they scored with a good strike leaving keeper Zoe Harris no chance.

With Caradon having the luxury of two subs, they were able to bring in Marcia Burgess and Lauren Gerry throughout the game, who both played well in their positions.

It was a very tight second half, but when Reed ran with the ball on goal, the Bodmin keeper did well to save the initial shot, but Reed somehow managed to get her body around for the rebound, with a superbly placed reverse! Caradon continued to frustrate Bodmin for the rest of the game and deservadly came away 2-1 winners.

'Star of the Match' went to Luiten for her superb play in midfield and the 'Oh Deer Moment' went to Brown for her green card!

Caradon 2s will be looking to build on this weeks performance when they visit Truro next weekend. With Harris missing, it will mean a first start of the season in the 2s for keeper Emily Joyce and the return of Bryony Gubbins on the left.
