Match Report

This inter club cup tie between Caradon 3rd and 4th team was inevitably going to be a tough match between friends and family in this spirited club.

The Caradon 3rd and 4th team are currently in the same League, ‘Trelawney Division 2’ with Caradon 3 pushing for promotion whilst their 4th team sit comfortably mid table.

With their game faces on, Caradon 3’s win the toss to take first push back, however it’s not long before its intercepted and Caradon 4’s midfielders take possession. With Sasha Riddle and Izzy Hedley working their way towards the 3’s solid defence to find, Amber Jeffery holding strong preventing any goal access from her opposition.

As equal possession continues, Caradon 3’s are awarded a short corner, a strike from Sarah Strevens is deflected out of the reach of the keeper to put the 3s ahead.

Play resets, and Caradon 4’s continue to fight to even the score line, but were unable to stop Emma Gliddon in her tracks as she raced down the side-line, proving an impeccably placed ball to the penalty spot for Lauren Gerry to redirect round the keeper, putting the score line at 2-0.

As tiredness creeps in before halftime, Caradon 4’s continue to impress and keep their head with good movement around the pitch, holding strong and reliant in centre mid by Neve Hunn pushing balls wide to find Kirsty Merrin to attack the 3’s defence, her shot takes a deflection from a Caradon 3s stick and crosses the goal line, closing the score gap to 2-1.

Caradon 3 immediately retaliated play, with a quick 16 yard hit out from Captain Sharon Jeffery, finding winger Libby Walsh with textbox play from team mate Katie Fear led to swift pass in to the D for Sarah Strevens to score her second, putting the score line at 3-1.

The final score ended 5-1 to Caradon 3’s, with further goals from Sarah Strevens and Lauren Gerry. The game certainly showed the true spirit of gamesmanship and comradery with both teams supporting each other.
