Match Report

Caradons Mens 3rds Captain had a good feeling about this game before the weekend, the first time they played each other at the start of the season, Devonport Services had been easy winners 6-1. This time would be different as the home side get stronger and more confident with time. Caradon started with the ball and shocked their opponents with confident passing play. Despite their best efforts the home team just couldn't get past the Services back line, their combinedĀ  playing experience very clear for all to see. Caradon were so very determined but it was the visitors who would have the first chance of the day, as their centre forward fought his way into the home circle, found the space and fired off a shot at the bottom corner but the Caradon keeper was able to slam the door shut and keep the clean sheet for now. Our home team were working hard to make head way but each and every attack was turned aside by the Devonport Services defense. The first half finished with this deadlock still firmly in place.

After a very positive half time team talk must have worked as Caradon pinned the visitors back in their own half for the first ten minutes of the second half, this pressure culminated in a penalty corner, with returning player Tim Wright on duty to smash the ball past the defense into the goal. For the first time in the season Caradon Mens 3s has taken the lead! They were buzzing, the excitment was felt throughout the team but now came the hard part, extending or holding onto the lead! Devonport were almost frantic now, as they turned on the pressure. It was one way traffic now that saw Caradons defense coping with attack after attack but they did with all of the defense working together to keep controll of the lead. Devonport would drag themselves dag into the game when a well struck penalty corner sqeazed under the keeper and into the goal. With the game now tied Devonport stepped up their game again forcing our home side to defend like never before. They could keep the ball out of the goal but couldn't quite clear their own half, Caradon remained calm under pressue, which was key to keeping themselves in the running, Services however were getting more and more frustrated as they failed to make any headway. The count down to the final whistle was a very tense affair as the last two minutes felt like ten. The relief from the home team when the whistle blew was written in the smiles on their faces.

Thomas Turpin was man of the match for Caradon for his sterling work in the first half, showing his skills running the line through grouped Devonport players. This draw bags our Caradon another point, while this has no effect on their league standing, it is a vey clear indicatorĀ of the improvements the team has made and though its said every week, it really does bode well for the future.
