Men's 3rd XI Vs Devonport Services A

Caradons Mens 3rds travelled across the Tamar to face off against Devonport Services 3rds, in that was a fun and friendly game. The teams were a lot more even than their previous meeting a few weeks ago. Caradon took the game to the home side but the younger players couldn't find a way past the experienced Devonport defense. The home side managed to capitalise on this and smashed in two goals quite quickly. The visitors weren't rattled by this though as the midfield tried repeatedly to battle into the home circle, which saw some great linking play from Drew Champion, Matthew Lampshire and Mark McCartney down the right wing. The opportunities were there but just couldn't be converted.

The second half was a lot better with Caradon having long periods of possession and their defence working so well together to cut out any scoring opportunity for the home team. Things were going well until Glen Young had to practice a little self preservation with a lifted ball heading towards his face, gave away a penalty flick. Gary Chapman of Devonport Services slotted the ball away confidently and the game carried on. Caradon were now finding it a lot easier to break into the Services circle but again just couldn't convert the chances. Devonport couldn't get close to the visitors goal as they were pushing so high up the pitch and in their desperation took to smashing the ball down the length of the pitch. 

The game finished 3-0, which is a great improvement on their earlier meeting and shows how quickly the team is growing in confidence. As long as we can keep the improvement going our first league points can't be far away.
