Match Report | Caradon continued thier impressive winning run with a well earnt 3-1 win at Marjons which leaves them firmly in contention to win promotion. Knowing that only a win would be good enough, Caradon started the game with a good intensity. Attacking play at a blistering pace for the first 20 minutes was the pre match plan and this was played out to perfection when, after 20 minutes, they were 2-0 up. The first goal came from a penalty corner, won by youngster Sadie Mullis. Amy Batty delivered the perfect injection to Clare Poad who made no mistake with a crisp strike from the top of the circle. The second goal came after good work on the left from Katie Jones, finding good space to feed Mullis whos' goal bound shot was tucked away by Helen Manley. Caradon looked confident on the ball and created more chances but the scoreline remained the same until the half time break. Marjons started the second half much the better team. Player of the match Carrina Hodge worked tirelessly in the center of the pitch and alongside Charlie Harris managed to stall Marjons' increasing pressure but could do nothing to stop a well worked goal to bring the game into a bit of a cliff hanger. Pivot player, Beth Harris, gradually started to take control and calmed the game by her assured passing and Caradon were then awarded only thier third penalty corner of the game. With an improvised routine, Poad turned an impossable situation to a goal scoring oppertunity and her shot could only be deflected past the flat footed keeper. With a 2 goal cushion, Caradon again looked comfortable. Fleur Worden and Daisy Hunn turned the once threatening right wing marjons attack into a brick wall and Marjons looked like they had run out of ideas. Stand in forward, Vannessa Scott, continued to work hard to open up an oppertunity but the game ended 3-1 and now Caradon look forward to entertained title contenders, Penzance, at Lux park on Saturday knowing a win will see them favourites to gain promotion. Anything less and a runners up spot with no promotion looks most likely. No pressure then !!! |
