Match Report | Caradon ladies first team secured second place in the league with a 5-2 win over Bude. In the reverse fixture earlier in the year it was a very tight contest with Caradon grabbing a last minute winner so both teams knew this game was never going to be one sided. Caradon started in a confidant form and were soon awarded thier first penalty corner of the day. Clare Poad smashed it home in typical fashion and Caradon began to relax into some good passing phases, making themselves a constant threat to the Bude goal. Charlie Harris was finding good space and linked well with her fellow midfielders. A combination beween Bizze Dinnis and Harris led to ther next goal when Harris slotted into the bottom corner to increase the lead. Caradon looked comfortable until Budes' speedy forward played broke free an scored a great individual goal and the game was nicely balanced going into the break. Caradon were stunned when the first attacking play of the second half saw Bude equalise with another break away goal but Caradon remained calm and did not panic. With the scores level this seemed to inspire Caradon to play thier best hockey of the match. Carrina Hodge, Sadie Mullis and Katie Jones stepped up the pressure and turned over possesion many times. Player of the match, Helen Manley, was having a great game on the right wing and with Dinnis working tirelessly up front Caradon were soon to regain thier lead. Dinnis worked her magic in the circle and scored a trademark reverse shot and Caradon knew the win was now firmly in thier hands. Spaces were now appearing as Bude tired and midfield dynamo, Beth Harris, scored after good build up on the right and a perfect pass from Dinnis. Caradon were now enjoying themselves and continued in the search for more goals. Poad scored the final goal of the day whern after 2 shots well saved by the keeper hit a shot that couldo nly be deflected into the goal by the bemused defender. Caradon now face Plymouth Marjons on Saturday knowing that a win will leave the league title all to play for. |
