Match Report | Caradon entertained third placed Marjons and ran out worthy 3-0 winners. Caradon knew how important a good performance was and straight fron the first whistle began to find thier groove. Passing was fluent and pressure was building for the experienced marjons backline. Charlie Harris and Carrina Hodge were linking well in midfield but the killer pass was a struggle to find. Penalty corners could not be converted and Caradon had to settle for 0-0 at the halkf time break. The second halve continued in he same vain that the first half finished, with the home team pushing hard for the opening goal. Player of the match, Julia Eldridge was in commanding form and started many attacks down the favourite right had side, working well with the energetic Sadie Mullis. It was from one of these right sided attacks that a penalty corner was awarded and the deadlock was eventually broken when captain, Clare Poad, reacted first to a rebound to slot home on her reverse. That goal gave Caradon even more confidance, and began to play with more freedom and enjoying great phases of attacking hockey. Beth Harris controlled her midfield with great maturity and with the increased pressure in the circle Caradon were awarded a penalty flick after a phase of play saw the post being hit, a last ditch defensive tackle and then a foot on the line following a Poad strike. Bizzie Dinnis stepped uo to convert the flick and she made no mistake as she found the bottom righ corner. At 2-0, the game was effectively over but it was left for in form Helen Manley to score the final and best goal of the day. A through ball from Harris was met by Dinnis who timed her pass perfectly to Manley who, from the top of the circle, powered past the helpless keeper. A great team performance will have have given Caradon confidance, which they will need to feed off when they face fellow title contenders Penzance next week when one of the teams will lose thier 100% record. |
