Match Report | Caradon 1s started the season with an emphatic win over Tiverton White Eagles and put on a display of fast paced passing hockey in the process. With a new look team, consisting of several new faces who have worked thier way up through the club development programme, the first twenty minutes were slightly cautious with players working hard to maintain the teams shape. Gradually, Caradon began to push forward with more confidence and shots on goal were getting closer to the target. The deadlock was finally broken when a trade mark penalty corner routine between Carrina Hodge and Clare Poad resulted in the sound of the backboard. The goal seemed to set the ryhthm for the remainder of the game with phases of play putting Tiverton firmly on the back foot. Relentless pressure from Sadie Mullis playing on the right wing resulted in her shot across goal crossing the line and a 2-0 lead at half time for the travelling team. The emphasis at the half time talk was to keep the tempo high and continue to play quality hockey. Charlie Harris and Katie Jones played with great composure and created good chances for the hungry forwards. Striker Bizzie Dinnis scored her first of the day, finishing a penalty routine with a low drive to the bottom corner and soon grabbed her second when she reacted first to a loose ball in the circle. Player of the match Bryony Gubbins was weaving her magic on the left wing and combined well with Harris to carve even more chances. Tivertons' keeper made some last ditch saves, 2 goals were dissallowed and the post was hit, but there was still more goals to come. Bizzie Dinnis completed her hat trick after an inch perfect pass from Helen Manley was swiftly tucked away. Caradons' defence of Julia Eldridge, Amy Batty and Daisy Hunn looked in complete control all game and left stand in keeper Fleur Worden with an unexpected quiet game. Last season a clean sheet was hard to come by but on this occasion it was a sure thing. The final goal and the day came when pivot player, Beth Harris topped a great afternoons performance with a well taken goal from the top of the circle. A counter attack that started from the right back Eldridge, enabled Mullis to attack the now weary defence. A cute pass found Poad whos shot was well saved but Beth had made good ground to score from the rebound. Next week the 1s look forward to thier first home game. 3pm against Okehampton at Lux Park. |
