Match Report |
This was a tough assignment, against league leader PGSOBs, straight after the Christmas break and Caradon were soon chasing the game. The opposition were given the ball far to often and 3 out of the first 4 goal were scored courtesy of their forward line being provided with the ball in the Caradon half. When the opposition have a centre forward with experience of hockey at a higher level they are not going to turn down too many opportunities that come gift wrapped. Caradon therefore deservedly found themselves 4-0 down at half time. The character of the Caradon side came to the fore in the second half as they attempted to battle back into the game. The first hint of a fight back came when a shot froma short corner was deflected off the keeper and then a defender onto the post and behind. Soon after Caradon had more luck from their next short corner; the initial shot was block but David Lockett collected the rebound and went wide right before firing a cross towards the penalty spot and a waiting Martin Batty who cushion the cross onto his reverse side and fired home. The next short corner also brought reward and although the initial shot was block the ball was not cleared and Neil Jones was on hand to force the ball home for his first ever league goal. Another goal would have got the visitors seriously worried but it didn't come and with Caradon driving forward PGSOBs were able to counter attack and but the game out of reach with 10 minutes remaining. Caradon can be proud of their fight back in the second half especially with so many players absent and not even able to field a substitute. Next up, with numerous players returning from their foreign holidays(!), they should be looking for a more favourable outcome with the short hop across the Tamar to Tavistock for a 4pm push back.
