Match Report |
Caradon won a pulsating game against Plymouth Marjon that was in doubt until the final whistle thanks to a rousing fight back by the Marjon team. Marjon made a strong start to the game and put a sluggish Caradon midfield and defence under significant early pressure but slowly Caradon start to provide their own threat and with their 3rd short corner they took the lead as Evan Spencer hit a sweet strike wide of the keeper. The game remained evenly contested until the stroke of half time when Caradon were awarded another short corner and with the last touch of the half David Lockett struck home despite the keeper getting part of his foot to the ball. Caradon found a reserve of energy and it was their turn to start the second half strongly and after 10 minutes they looked to have put the game to bed. Lockett took a quick 16 hit out on the right and found Thomas Rowe, playing through the pain barrier of a bicycle crash the day before, on the halfway liine. Rowe gave a quick ball inside to Ben Reynolds who then slipped a perfectly weighted ball through the defensive line for Stephen Hayes to run onto and he then fire through the goalkeepers legs to make it 3-0. Marjon did not give up and with 15 minutes remaining they got a goal back. After a succession of short corners they finally got a shot on goal only for it to rebound off the post and completely wrong foot the whole Caradon back line and a forward was able to slide the ball home. With 5 minutes remaining Marjon looked to set up a grandstand finish as one of their young forwards worked the ball at the top of the D onto his reverse side and then slammed the ball home off the inside of the post. The game then became very open and although Caradon probably had the better opportunities to add a fourth there would be no more additions to the score line as Caradon held on to win 3-2 and thus move up to 7th in the table. Joel Tamblyn had a good game in goal standing in for the injured George Rowe but the man of the match award went to Stephen Hayes for his second half performance capped off by a quality goal. Next up is a midweek trip to Truro followed by a home game against Plymouth University and a chance to gauge the development of this side against two teams near the top of the table.
