Match Report |
Caradon Second Team made it 3 wins on the trot with a 4-2 win over Torbay Second Team. The stats show that Caradon are very much a second half team with a first half goal difference of -7 compared to a second half goal difference of +8 so to score after less than a minute surprised everybody. David Lockett picked up the ball in centre field midway inside the Torbay half and found he had plenty of space. After driving inside the 23 he saw Jake Andrews unmarked in the D and having provided a decent enough ball Andrews was able to flick it over the advancing keeper. Within 10 minutes the pair had combined again to double the lead as Lockett fired towards the penalty spot from out on the right. Andrews was perfectly positioned on the penalty spot to deflect the ball beyond the diving keeper. Torbay were not without a threat and have a number of very talented youngsters who possess a lot of stick skill. They found a way back into the game after 20 minutes when Caradon were unable to clear their lines and after a number of shots Torbay were able to find the right one to beat George Rowe in goal. Soon after the opposition Captain was given far to much room and he was able to drive into the D and fire Torbay level and that is how the scores remained until half time. Caradon squandered a couple of short corners in the second half but eventually from one the keeper was forced into a save and from the rebound Andrews was able to get enough room on his reverse stick to flick the ball home to restore the lead for Caradon and also complete his hat trick. Torbay had a number of chances to draw level again but there best chance came from a short corner that was well struck past Rowe in goal only for Tristan Young, protecting the right hand post, to deflect wide. With just under 10 minutes to go Caradon put the game to bed when another shot from a short corner drew the save from the keeper only for Mike Parkinson to follow the lead of Andrews' and expertly reverse hit it over the keeper. Caradon were clearly indebted to Jake Andrews who had clearly recovered his scoring stick from St Lucia but he had to accept joint ownership of the man of the match award as it was shared with Tristan Young for his performance in defence. Next up is a visit by Dart and Caradon will be looking to make up for the disappointment of only drawing against them in October having been 2 goals up.
