Match Report

Caradon completed the double over a much improved bottom placed Tavistock to move 7 points clear of the relegation zone.  After an unusually bright start in which Caradon forced a couple of short corners they were finally able to break the deadlock as a result of the third one when a shot on target was paried back and after a bit ping pong Evan Spencer was on hand to scoop the ball home.  Despite further pressure Caradon were unable to increase their lead partly because Jake Andrews had clearly left his shooting stick in St Lucia.  Tavistock were not without a threat of their own and it required some good goalkeeping from George Rowe to keep his clean sheet intact and the one time he was beaten a defender was on hand to deflect the ball away.  In the second half Caradon started to keep the ball better and within 5 minutes had doubled their lead when David Lockett dispatched the first short corner of the half.  Caradon were now very much in charge and from the next short corner they pulled further ahead when Stephen Hayes was quickest to react from the keepers initial save to dispatch the rebound.  Tavistock then had a period of pressure but George Rowe was having a really good game in goal and repelled everything that was directed goalwards.  With just over 5 minutes to go Caradon put the icing on the cake with the best goal of the match.  From a 16 hit out Lockett found Thomas Rowe on the 23 yard line and he drove forward finding Stephen Hayes out wide on the left inside the Tavistock half.  Hayes had only one thing on his mind as he drove into the D from the left and then having reached the penalty spot he hammered the ball past a dispairing keeper.  Hayes denied himself any chance of bagging a hat trick by getting a green card that was then increased to yellow thus meaning he sat out the final few minutes but Caradon were able to see the game out without much trouble to pick up a very valuable 3 points.  George Rowe was named man of the match for his imposing display in goal.  Next up sees the visit to Lux Park of mid table Ashmoor.
