Match Report

Caradon recorded their first win of the season at the second attempt to give belief in their ability to handle the step up following promotion.  Caradon could have been a couple of goals to the good in the first 5 minutes as they broke with pace and Paul Hunt had two shots hit the outside of the post.  Caradon didn't have long to wait as Thomas Rowe scored his first goal of the season to put Caradon 1-0 ahead.  However Tavstock came to life and forced a number of good saves out of George Rowe in goal and on the one ocassion when he was beaten at a short corner he had a defender on the line to turn the ball around the post.  Just before half time Caradon extended their lead from their third short corner as Captain David Lockett, recently back on the pitch following a green card, struck a sweet shot through the legs of the keeper.  A half time team talk addressed the areas that threatened to let Tavistock back into the match and the second half was more one way traffic as Caradon got the all important third goal with Paul Hunt finally finding the net and then Thomas Rowe, now full of confidence, start knocking the ball into the goal for fun as he picked up a second half hat trick to add to his first half goal.  The goal of the game was probably reserved for Ben Reynolds who following a penalty corner saw the rebound come his way.  He had the composure to let the ball drop and then flicked it back into the top of the goal.  Caradon had further chances but the Tavistock keeper was playing a blinder and made half a dozen quality saves to stop Caradon reaching double figures.  The final score of 7-0 sets the bench mark for the season but there will be sterner tests ahead starting next weekend with a visit to Totnes to face Ashmoor B.  Thomas Rowe was rightly named Man of the Match for his 4 goals.
