Match Report

After a run of disappointing results Caradon men’s 1st XI we’re not in high hopes to beat Okehampton who had just taken 2nd place in the league. In typical Caradon fashion the Cornish team attacked straight out of the blocks, piling pressure on Okehampton’s defence. The break through came Halfway through the first half with a David Fasey drag flick beating the keeper before getting caught in the roof of the net.

Caradon now found themselves in familiar territory, ahead in the first half, but unlike recent weeks Caradon strengthened and secured their lead as Okehampton attacked. Despite the best effort of Caradon did eventually concede a short corner, but with Dan Harris in good form the flicker didn’t stand a chance as Dan parried the ball down from the top corner. Weathering the storm Caradon countered, launching an attack down the right flank, Simon Roberts beat the men along the back line finding Luke Jeffrey in the D who secured Caradon’s second with a well placed reverse over the fallen keeper. Playing composed well managed hockey Cardon saw half time arrive 2-0 up.

The second half saw Caradon come out with the confidence of old, commanding the game as Okehampton struggled to break into Caradon D. Creating chances across the pitch Caradon continued to attack, a delectable bit of hockey saw Luke, Chris and Harrison Pollard link up in the D and Chris Fasey slotting the ball through the approaching keepers legs for Caradon’s third.

Okehampton let their heads drop but Caradon did not stop the onslaught, Simon Roberts beat the keeper with a big spin and Neil Spencer capitalising on a broken down short corner putting Caradon in a commanding 5-0 lead. Despite having more chances Caradon could not improve further and the game finished 5-0. The result puts Caradon back into 2nd place despite not playing their best hockey in recent weeks. Next week is the last game before the Christmas break and Caradon will be hoping to finish on a high.
