Match Report | Caradon travelled to Redruth to take on newly promoted Duchy in the last of thier pre season friendly matches. With several squad players unavailable, it was a chance to try out some of the up and coming talent that the club is producing. Ellen Spencer and Bryony Gubbins both made thier debuts and coped well with the increased speed of play and showed good confidence on the ball. With a total of seven players aged 20 or below, the team played with renewed energy and creativity. Caradon took control straight from the first whistle, closing down Duchy play and getting good turnover ball. Pressure was mounting and it wasn't long before Clare Poad split the defence with a through ball to the forward running Sadie Mullis who calmy rounded the keeper and got the ball across the line. Katie Jones and Bryony Gubbing were combining well on the left hand side and a pass to Poad inside the circle allowed the Captain to wriggle free and slot past the keeper. 2-0 up within 20 minutes and Caradon were enjoying playing thier passing game. Player of the match Beth Harris enjoyed finding her passing range and more chances were made before the break. If Caradon had been more clinical the goals tally would have been alot higher by the half time break. The second half continued to be dominated by the visitors, leaving the Caradon defence to play high up the pitch and become the catalyst for many more attacks. Duchy posed very little threat going forward and the game became a display of attacking play. Although no more goals were scored there was plenty to be learnt and taken into the first league game on the 28th when Caradon travel to Tiverton to take on White Eagles. |
