Women's 1st XI Vs Penzance

Playing the last league fixture of the season, Caradon entertained Penzance under the lights at Lux Park on Wednesday night.

With both teams knowing any result would not alter the final league standing, the first ten minutes were quite cagey, with both teams waiting to see who was going take risks first to push for a win. Caradon had the best chances in the first half, forcing penalty corners, but struggled to find a way past the stuburn defence.

Caradons' midfield were being made to work hard to turn over possesion, and were winning most of the 50/50 balls. As the game was beggining to open up, Penzance were counter attacking well. They took the lead from a well worked penalty corner and went into the break 1-0 up.

With both teams playing similar styles of hockey, play was restricted to the center of the pitch with both teams struiggling to get shots on goal. The visitors capitalised on a loose pass and broke through to score thier second of the game. Caradon increased the pace in thier play, with nothing to loose.

Penzance were defending strongly and with key saves from thier keeper it looked like they would keep a clean sheet and a victory until Player of the Match, Bizzie Dinnis, created herself some space and powered her reverse shot to the backboard. With 8 minutes left to play, Caradon surged forward but the visitors ran the clock down to claim the points.

A third place league finish, securing more points than last years tally and scoring more goals than any other team in the south division is a great return for the effort put in by the first team this year.
