Match Report

Caradon travelled to Truro to take on Newquay in the semi final of the county cup, but despite a fine performance lost 4-3.

With a slightly changed line up, Caradon started the strongest of the teams and were starting to apply real pressure on the Newquay goal. A direct ball from Lauren Gouge found Clare poad in the circle who beat her defender and sent a fierce strike towards the backboard.

Caradon are not used to leading a game and as Newquay began to find their feet, the lead was not kept for long. Despite valiant efforts by the defence, Newquay scored 3 goals before the break and looked comfortable for the win.

After  the break, Caradon continued to play their usual high tempo hockey. Marcia Burgess was dominant in midfield alongside Carina Hodge and Beth Harris. The game plan of attacking down the wing was working as Laura Hill worked her way into the circle creating  chances on numerous occasions. Poad capitalised on some soft defending after latching on to a Burgess pass and then levelled the scores shortly after with a great goal that found the roof of the net.

There was still ten minutes to play and the cup tie could have gone either way but it was Newquay who scored what turned out to be the winning goal after converting a penalty flick. Caradon continued to push forward right to the final whistle but it wasn't to be their day and had to be content with another great comeback performance.

Caradon return to league action on Saturday when they travel to Bude.
