Match Report | Caradon travelled to Champions elect, Newquay and despite losing 1-0 played the better hockey and were extremely unlucky not to come home with all three points. Previous contests between these two teams have always been close and this game was no differant. Both teams battled for supremacy and the midfielders were being made to work extremely hard. Caradon had changed thier formation to nullify Newquays attacking threat and was working well. Helen Manley played a disciplined game at the top of a diamond midfield and the game was balancing on a knife edge. Just before the half time break Newquay scored a soft goal which somehow dribbled over the line but Caradon started the second half in a confident fashion and were really starting to crank up the pressure. With intelligent play from player of the match,Julia Eldridge, defence turned into attack and shots on goal were plentiful. Bizzie Dinnis had a powerful reverse shot hit the post and another cleared off the line. Penalty corners were executed well by the trailing team only to met with last ditch clearences from both the Newquay keeper and players on the line. Caradon threw caution to the wind and pushed on their midfielders who all had chances to score, but luck simply was not on thier side and the score remained 0-1 and it was Newquay who were jubilant and Caradon left frustrated. Newquay had one shot on goal all match and will think themselves very lucky to get the win. Caradon, on reflection, can be extremely pleased with thier performance and must now focus on finishing the season strongly. This starts on Saturday with a home fixture against Tavistock. 3pm start at Lux Park. |
