Match Report |
Caradon Men's Second team hosted Penzance First team in the Cup in atrocious conditions. Heavy rain throughout meant puddles were starting to form at half time and there were concerns that the game might have to be abandoned. Penzance opened the scoring after a couple of minutes but Caradon tightened up their defence and started to create their own chances however after a number of short corners for each side Penzance doubled their lead through a well worked routine that resulted in a short corner being deflected neatly into the goal. Just before half time Caradon clawed their way back into the fixture through a short corner of their own when Will Turpin was on hand to follow up the first shot and lift the ball over the prostrate keeper. The second half was evenly fought with both sides having opportunities but in the last 10 minutes Penzance twice counter attacked to good effect to add to the score line and ensure they would run out winners. Last season when Caradon hosted Penzance, who play two divisions above them, the score was 6-0 so this years scoreline of 4-1 indicates just how far this young team have come in the space of 12 months and sights are now firmly on some big league games in January which will decide whether promotion is achievable come March.
