Match Report

This fixture and the match between Caradon and Bodmin A (also 16-0 in favour of Caradon) is a clear indication that change of format is required in the Cornwall Cup.  This visit by Caradon Second Team to Truro First Team was the equivilant of LIskeard and Looe Lions taking on Exeter Chiefs - In rugby it just wouldn't happen.  Fortunately in this mismatch of a game nobody was injured but the hockey played will have done nothing for the confidence of a young Caradon side.

Caradon did extremely well in defence to keep Truro at bay for the first 12 minutes and even managed to get the Truro goalkeeper to touch the ball once in the first half.  However Truro were not to be denied and they scored 4 out of 5 goals in the first half from short corners as there skills were brought to the fore.  To be only 5 down at the break was a stella effort from the team but it was obvious that the team were starting to tire and mistakes were starting to add up the longer the second half went on.  Four or five of the goals scored could be put down to Caradon failing to deal with the intense pressure applied and if nothing else they will hopefully have learnt something from the experience of using the ball under such pressure.  Caradon did manage one break into the Truro D and young Ben Hedley came within a whisker of getting a goal only to be thwarted by the defender on the line.  A final score of 16-0 just avoided being the biggest margin of defeat in this years competition and it is hoped that a review of the format will be undertaken at the end of the season otherwise it is highly unlikely Caradon A will be entering the competition next season.
