Match Report |
Caradons Ladies 4’s travelled down to Falmouth on a very wintery day to play their County cup game against Falmouth ladies, a team that are riding high in 3rd place of Premier 2B. This is a very large difference the standard of hockey played but our ladies were in high spirits despite the hail.
The game was only ever going to go one way but Caradon did their very best to hamper Falmouths attack. Karen Stacey playing in goal for the first time did an amazing job stopping shot after shot as the Caradon defence worked over time trying to keep Falmouth out. Despite their best efforts Falmouth had racked up a very comfortable lead by half time.
The second half saw Falmouth increasing their lead with ease scoring some very well rehearsed goals in quick succession. Credit must be given to Caradon for never giving up and not letting their heads drop. This determination almost paid off and a few occasions when Sasha Riddle threaded the ball through to Lauren Gerry, narrowly missing at the near post. Gerry had a chance again making it into the home circle, the panicked saved left the Falmouth goalie in a vulnerable position, leaving her no option but to smoother the ball giving away a penalty corner. They couldn’t quite manage to get the ball in the net, it was their best chance of the day and a testament to their work rate.
Though Falmouth comfortably won the match, Caradon never made it easy for them and left the pitch smiling knowing that they had played some of their best hockey so far this season.
